DLG - FOR THE FUTURE

1969 was in many ways a special year. Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon. Willy
Brandt became Chancellor of West Germany. The Beatles released ‘Abbey Road’. And DLG
was founded on 1 May 1969.

DLG’s story is a unique and exciting part of Danish and European business history. It is the

story of an agricultural sector, which for more than 100 years has insisted on taking
responsibility for its own fate – and therefore has jointly managed and developed the large
farmer-owned cooperatives such as DLG.

It is the story of a constantly evolving industry,
structural changes and consolidation. It is the story of major strategic decisions that
dramatically changed both DLG and the industry.

It is the story of a dramatic internationalisation that means that DLG in 2019 is the Danish
company that has the highest turnover in Germany and participates actively in the
consolidation of European agricultural markets. And it is the story of the many dedicated
DLG employees who have worked to strengthen the competitiveness of the primary
industry over the past 50 years.

For the DLG’s 50th anniversary, we have chosen to write this book to celebrate agriculture
and DLG and to pay tribute to our employees and not least to our owners who work every
day to feed the world’s growing population.

‘DLG – for the future’ was the first slogan that the newly-founded organisation promoted
itself with in 1969. Now, 50 years later, it is still just as valid. DLG has always worked for the
future. The future of the world’s most important industry.
