DLG is buying up in Germany

The German energy and DIY business of the DLG Group, team, is acquiring two DIY chains in Western Germany. The investment is strengthening team’s position in the region.

The German subsidiary team has delivered strong results to the DLG Group in recent years. Now team is strengthening its position in the German market with the acquisition of two DIY chains.

Fritz Spellmann GmbH and Herman Dalhoff GmbH & Co. KG, both located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in western Germany, are now being added to team's portfolio. The five DIY stores have a total of 113 employees and a turnover of more than DKK 250 million.

Kristian Hundebøll, CEO of DLG, sees the acquisitions as a natural part of the development of team's DIY division.

"We are very pleased with the development and growth that team has added to the DLG Group in recent years. It makes good sense for us to invest in the DIY division, because it is a business area where we continue to see significant growth potential," says Kristian Hundebøll.

An important part of the strategy

In spring 2022, DLG presented the new group strategy, Creating the Future 2030, in which the DIY business became an independent business area called ´Housing´ covering the sale and distribution of building materials to the German construction industry and private customers.

The business area accounts for 10 percent of the DLG Group's turnover, but a full 20 percent of the earnings. Approximately 2.000 employees work in the Group's DIY activities. The total number of employees in the group is 6.600.

"In Germany, it is common that agricultural companies sell goods inside agriculture, energy and building materials. In recent years, we have experienced that our business model has shown its strength because we serve some fundamental needs in society. Through our German business, we gain financial strength that enables us to invest in our Danish business and in the green transition," says Kristian Hundebøll.

A strong player in the German market

With the acquisition, team reinforces its position as one of the strongest players in the German market.

"We are delighted to be able to expand our DIY business in North Rhine-Westphalia, and thereby strengthening our position in the region. The location of the new stores complements our existing ones very well and ensures that we can act more flexibly towards our customers in the future and offer them the advice and service they demand," says Kevin Lorenzen, CEO of team.

team, which runs both the sales and distribution of energy and building materials in Germany, had a revenue of more than DKK 20 billion in 2021 and employs more than 3.000 people.
